Guangdong University of Technology is a provincial key university with a focus on engineering, a combination of engineering, science, management, grammar, and arts, and a coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It is also a key construction university for high-level universities in Guangdong Province. In 1958, undergraduate education was established, and in 1995, it was formed by the merger of the original Guangdong Institute of Technology, Guangdong Institute of Mechanical Engineering, and South China Construction College (East Campus). In 2022, the world university of soft science ranked 401-500 academically, and the Thames higher education ranked 49-65 in the world in Chinese Mainland.

The main campus of the school is located in the famous city of Guangzhou in southern China, with multiple campuses including University City, Dongfeng Road, Longdong, Panyu, Shahe, Jieyang, etc. The campus covers a total area of more than 5300 acres and has a beautiful environment. At present, the school has 25 colleges, 2 public course teaching departments (centers), and 2 research institutes.
