    Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was established in 1956 and is one of the first four Chinese medicine higher education institutions established by the country after the birth of the People's Republic of China. It is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Education, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. It is a "Double First Class" discipline construction university and a high-level university under the key construction of Shanghai.

    The school has established cooperative relationships in scientific research, teaching, and medical care with more than 60 overseas universities, medical research institutions, and international organizations from 30 countries and regions. Including Sino British cooperation in pharmacy and other Sino foreign cooperative education projects, cooperation with universities in countries and regions such as Thailand, Malaysia, Malta, Greece, and the United States to carry out overseas traditional Chinese medicine education, and the establishment of "Tai Chi Health Centers" and Confucius Institutes. Establish the Shanghai Institute of International Standardization of Traditional Chinese Medicine to lead and promote the international standardization of traditional Chinese medicine. In response to the national "the Belt and Road" initiative, overseas TCM centers have been set up in the Netherlands, Morocco, Mauritius, Thailand, Malta, the United Kingdom, Belgium and other countries.
