Guangxi University, abbreviated as GXU, is located in Nanning City, Guangxi. It is a jointly established university by the Ministry of Education and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

In 1925 (the 14th year of the Republic of China), Li Zongren and others from the New Guangxi Clique decided to establish Guangxi University. In 1928, the Provincial Guangxi University was established, with Huang Shaohong as its chairman and Ma Junwu as its first president. In 1939, it was renamed National Guangxi University. In 1950, it merged with Nanning Normal University (now Guangxi Normal University), and in 1952, Mao Zedong personally inscribed the name of Guangxi University; In the same year, the College of Agriculture at Guangxi University became an independent institution called Guangxi Agricultural College. In 1953, during the adjustment of domestic university departments, the faculty and students, subject majors, equipment, and library materials of Guangxi University were relocated to 19 universities in the central and southern regions of China. In 1958, the State Council approved the restoration and reconstruction of Guangxi University in Nanning. In 1997, Guangxi University merged with Guangxi Agricultural University to form the new Guangxi University.
